What Is Banana Ball? Savannah's Game, Explained

Banana Ball is a faster, fan-first version of baseball created by the Savannah Bananas at Historic Grayson Stadium. Games are built to finish in about two hours, teams earn a point for each inning they win, and players perform for the crowd throughout. From October 1 to 4, 2026, the first Banana Ball Championship League Playoffs come home to Grayson Stadium. Savannah Scone Company is celebrating with a Banana Bananza menu October 1 to 3.
What is Banana Ball?
Banana Ball is baseball rebuilt around the fans. The Savannah Bananas started playing exhibition games under their own rules in 2018 and moved to Banana Ball full time in 2023. The format keeps the athleticism and cuts the waiting. Each inning is its own contest worth a point, and games wrap in about two hours. Between pitches you'll see choreographed dances, scoring celebrations, and players treating the whole stadium as part of the game. The league updates its rules often, so the details shift from season to season.
Why is Banana Ball a big deal in Savannah?
Banana Ball was born here. The Bananas have played at Grayson Stadium since their first season in 2016, and the team reports selling out every home game there since. In 2026 the sport is scheduled for 75 stadiums in 45 states, with six teams in the new Banana Ball Championship League.

What's happening in Savannah October 1–4?
The inaugural Banana Ball Championship League Playoffs run October 1 to 4 at Historic Grayson Stadium. Four teams are competing for two spots in the first Banana Bowl, the league's championship game, on October 10 in Washington, D.C. Every scone is baked at our Midtown Bakeshop. On Thursday and Friday, you'll find the Bananza at both shops. On Saturday, it's at our Downtown Coffee Shop & Scone Shop on Congress Street only, since Midtown is closed on weekends. The rest of the week's lineup is on this week's menu.
