Breakfast in Savannah: A Local's Guide
October 28, 2026 · 3 min read

Breakfast in Savannah comes in two speeds. There is the sit-down Southern breakfast, with biscuits, grits and a long table, and there is the walking breakfast: a coffee and something fresh from a bakery, eaten on a bench in one of the squares. Most visitors want both over a weekend. The Historic District, City Market and River Street are where most breakfast spots cluster, and nearly all of them are within a short walk of each other.
We think the best Savannah mornings start simply, with a fresh scone and a good cup of coffee, and then go wherever the squares take you. Here is how we would plan breakfast in Savannah, whether you have one morning or a whole weekend.
Sit-down or grab-and-go?
Decide this first, because it shapes the whole morning.
A sit-down breakfast is the classic Savannah weekend. Plan for a wait at popular spots on Saturday and Sunday mornings, especially during big event weekends, and put your name in early.
A grab-and-go breakfast gets you out the door and into the city while it is still quiet. Mornings are the best time to walk the squares, before the trolleys and tour groups fill the streets. Take your coffee and scone with you, or sit for a few minutes and watch Congress Street wake up.
Breakfast near City Market and River Street
Our Downtown Coffee Shop & Scone Shop is at 31 W Congress Street, a short walk from City Market, River Street and Broughton Street. It opens at 8 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and serves coffee, tea and scones baked at our Midtown Bakeshop.
From there, the river is a few blocks north and the shops on Broughton are a block south. If you are staying in a Historic District hotel, it is an easy first stop before a day of walking. Our self-guided walk through the squares starts nearby, and our parking guide covers where to leave the car.
Breakfast in Midtown
Our Midtown Bakeshop at 713 E 65th Street is where our scones are baked. It opens at 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, and it is the easiest stop if you live in Savannah or are heading to work. Pick up a box for the office on your way in.
What to order
Our menu changes every week, so check this week's menu before you come. We bake sweet and savory scones and Scuffins, our scone-dough muffins. A savory scone makes a full breakfast on its own. A sweet one is better with coffee. Our scones in Savannah page explains the range, and there is a gluten-free board on the weekly menu if you need one.
If you have a favorite from a past menu, you do not have to wait for it to come back. Order 8 or more of one flavor by 10 a.m. the day before and we will bake a batch for you through special orders.
Breakfast for a group or an office
Feeding a team, a meeting or a houseful of guests is easier with scones than with anything that needs a stove. Tell our special orders team your date and headcount and pick your scones from the weekly menu. Our office party food ideas post has more on putting a spread together.
Plan your morning
For a slower version of the same idea, read our guide to a perfect morning in Savannah. It strings together coffee, a walk down Broughton, the riverfront and Forsyth Park.
Our shops are closed on Sundays, so plan a Saturday stop, and check this week's menu before you come.
If you can't make it to Savannah, we ship our scones nationwide through Goldbelly, so you can have a Savannah breakfast at home.
